Festival kicks off Wednesday, October 12th with a Screenwriting seminar and a pre-festival screening. Festival screenings begin on Thursday, October 13th and continue through Sunday, October 16th.

USTV America is planning an online film festival for student filmmakers.
They are calling for socially responsible short films (3 to 5 min. in length) that will highlight the current issues that confront America and threaten its constitutional democracy, as well as its economic well-being.
USTV America is a community sponsored internet television network powered by college and university student interns. But, they need the help of fellow student filmmakers to help guide this film festival to success.
The Redhouse Arts Center is offering two year-long sequential learning programs that give participants the opportunity to participate in the creative process of film-making. At the end of the process, the films will be part of a professional screening event at The Redhouse!
The Short-Short Narrative Film Project
Saturdays: October 22, January 21, March 10, May 19
*Film screening: May (Exact date, TBA)
These workshops allow filmmakers to develop their own short narrative film. The program will be curated by Mark Mocahbee, a professional documentary and narrative filmmaker from the University of Miami! Guest instructors with professional film credits will help Mocahbee lead the intensive workshops and mentor participants through the film-making process. Seminars include screenwriting, cinematography, editing, and post-production.

The “My Life” Documentary Project

The “My Life” Documentary Project allows teens/college students to create a short documentary film that chronicles their life stories. Students will use hand held Flip cameras to create a cinema verite documentary about a year in their lives.

A full-length comedy feature about an ill-mannered and overly expressive teen, Joe, who has just graduated from high school and has no desire to seek the next step in his life. With graduation comes more responsibility and less security, which Joe is going to have to learn. Numerous friends, family and acquaintances, especially Joe’s best friend Alex, begin to effect Joe’s outrageous ploys and it seems that Joe might finally have to do some life-altering decision making after all.

Syracuse Stories: An All-Arts Festival invites the people of Central New York, of every generation, neighborhood, ethnic group, new arrivals and longtime settlers to share their histories and experiences. The festival will be July 30 at the Everson Museum of Art.
Stories can be told through film, video, the visual arts, poetry, dance, music, drama, exhibitions or interactive activities and of any length. The deadline for signing up to participate is June 15. There is no entry fee.
Due to a website error which prevented film makers and film lovers from accessing www.syrfilmfest.com, the SYRFILM staff and directors have decided to extend the submission deadlines for the 2011 Festival!
